God Gave Common Sense For Dummies Like Me

I’m no scholar. In fact, I skipped out on college. But there’s one thing I do have and am truly grateful for: common sense.

Common sense is an amazing gift from God, and with this gift, I am able to come to some of the most important truths in existence:

1.) All of creation reveals the character of God.

A) Without the sun, which He made on the first day, we’d die. Not only that, but we would not have light so we’d stumble around in darkness. God is life, and He is light—literally and figuratively. He is the One who created life, and in Him we have both physical life and eternal life. He is also light (a consuming fire to be more precise). His brightness exposes our darkness, illuminating the truth of our condition and who He is. Jesus is called the Light of the World by the apostle John, and for good reason. Truth Himself came down from heaven and walked amongst us, showing us how we need to live and how it’s only possible through the One who did it perfectly, that is, sinlessly.

B) Certain animals are multiple times stronger than us, displaying such power and might that we humans simply cannot muster—no matter how much steroids we consume or weights we lift. We can’t fight a full-grown bear, or a rhino and expect to win. This shows me that God—who made these beasts—is way more powerful than I can ever hope to be.

C) The sea is so deep, we can only go so far before our bodies explode from pressure. God’s wisdom is so high above our own that these finite minds we’re trapped in while on planet earth would explode at the vastness of His knowledge. However, those in Christ have the mind of Christ, where all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden—only to be revealed to those who desire to follow Him.

D) Just as there’s parts of the universe we can never have time to reach, so is Heaven impossible to reach on our own. But Jesus made the way. When we die—if we had given our life to Him beforehand—we can now enter through heaven’s gates and live in eternity with our Creator, Lord, and Savior.

These are some of the things God’s gift of common sense has blessed me with. How about you?

God Is The King Of Stalkers (In A Good Way)

Ok, so like, the depth of God’s love is seriously mind-blowing. Just consider this, truly contemplate this:

1.) God thinks about us … all the time.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.-Psalms 139:17, 18

The God of the universe, the universe that contains billions of galaxies and stars, you know, galaxies like the Milky Way which in light years (the length travelled by light in one year which is equal to 9,460,000,000,000 km) it’s 100,000 of those across!!!

So yeah, the God who makes billions of galaxies of that magnitude thinks of us constantly.

2.) God watches us all the time.

You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.-Psalms 139:2, 3

He sees everything we do. He cares about our every breath and our every step. And we’re microscopic compared to Him! I mean, even our earth is a million times smaller than our sun so how ridiculously tiny are we to the immeasurable God who made all this stuff? Yet, He watches us.

3.) God listens to us.

God hears us out. Say what! Here’s how this one works: when Christ, the perfect Son of God, died on that Roman cross at Golgotha 2,000 years ago and then rose from the dead three days later (witnessed by over five hundred people alive during that time), He became the Mediator, the High Priest by which we humans can enter the presence of Almighty God and make request of Him.

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.-Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT

Not only does God listen to us, but check this out:

And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.-Revelation 5:8 NLT

Then another angel with a gold incense burner came and stood at the altar. And a great amount of incense was given to him to mix with the prayers of God’s people as an offering on the gold altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, mixed with the prayers of God’s holy people, ascended up to God from the altar where the angel had poured them out.-Revelation 8:3, 4 NLT

Say what! God has our prayers presented to Him in golden bowls by angels, and our prayers are mixed with amazing smelling incense? What in the blazes! Astounding. Utterly astounding.

4.) God knows us.

You know how people say: “no one knows me better than my spouse”? Yeah, they’re wrong.

There is no greater, no deeper kind of intimate knowledge than the knowledge God has of us.

He knows every centimeter of our outer frame:

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.-Luke 12:7

He knows every centimeter of our inner frame:

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.-Psalms 139:13

He knows our every thought:

You understand my thought afar off.-Psalms 139:2

For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.-Psalms 139:4

But Jesus knew their thoughts …”-Matthew 12:25, 9:4, Luke 5:22, 9:37 (and several more!)

And He knows your heart:

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”-1 Samuel 16:7

And Jesus said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts.-Luke 16:15

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.-Hebrews 4:13

5.) God loves us

Now this is the clincher. This is just a brain overload. God sees our every move, hears our every word, knows our every thought and motive yet still He loves us.

Can you imagine if you had a projector strapped to your head that was able to expose your every thought and motive 24/7 and you had to walk around with it and could never take it off? How many people would still love you? Maybe a few people would last a while, but what if they had to live with you 24/7 and go everywhere you go, in public and behind every closed door? Would they still love you then? Would they die for you?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.-John 3:16

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.-Romans 5:6-11 NLT

I’m mind-blown by all this. Are you?
